About Me | |

I started running properly back in December 2004 after my late wife, Laura, was killed. Since then I have ran 3 London Marathons, as well as a couple of Half Marathons, for a local Leicester charity, Wishes 4 Kids, and I am running it again in 2011.
I joined Wigston Phoenix running club in July 2010 and that has helped me improve my speed and enjoyed running races shorter than marathon distance. First run back after London. Legs felt ok to start. Calves were tight throughout. Right calf not niggly. Both as tight as each other. Was to be an unplanned rest day due to lie in, but after tracking clients to great races I was inspired to get out for a bit. Still in recovery mode so only 25 minutes easy effort. Both calves still tight but less so than yesterday. Legs felt ok when starting after warming up both calves. Calves are still tight when running and HR is still a little higher. Easy Effort Run
Legs feeling a little better again. Calves less tight. Kept effort easy throughout. Calves less tight than they have been when running and could comfortably have done much more, but being sensibly. Chest a little tight at points which makes me think higher HR could be fighting a bit of a virus (as Jo has a full on cold). Easy Effort Run
Legs feeling much better after taking yesterday off. Started with most of the first two miles in to quite a strong headwind. Although I kept effort easy, my HR was higher (when looking back at it) than it normally is for those miles. It didn't feel high when running so unsure if I am fighting something? HR seemed to calm down once out of the worst of the wind and got back to slightly above normal levels. Calves were ever so slightly noticeable but feel almost back to normal. Everything seems to have recovered. Felt a little more recovered again this morning. Calves virtually back to normal. Kept effort easy and had an eye on HR today to try to stop it spiking. Managed to keep it lower by slowing down on a couple of uphills, but it is still maybe 4-5bpm higher than pre-London. Fartleks - (2mins hard but not max effort at start of miles 2,3,4,5, with steady recoveries)
Legs felt good. Cool and calm weather with sun. Perfect conditions for once. Ran hard for first rep but could have carried on further at that pace/effort. Surprised with pace. Recovery was comfortable effort at sub-7.00 pace. Legs felt better on each of the next three reps and each one was slightly faster without trying as wasn’t looking at watch during the efforts until last few seconds to get right time of the rep. HR stats wrong as no chest strap. Legs good. Conditions good. Shorter warm up and cooldown than usual as restricted for time. First tempo mile felt tough without a longer warm up. Second mile felt more comfortable. Both paces spot on. Third mile was actually a bit too fast but same effort (wasn’t really looking at watch).
